About Calgary Catholic Immigrant Society (CCIS)
Incorporated as a charitable society in 1981, Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is a non-profit, non-denominational agency that is committed to making immigration a positive experience for immigrants, refugees and the community.
CCIS assists immigrants and refugees in their settlement process through services and programs in education, training, settlement, employment, family and community development.
CCIS offers over 70 programs with a team of 180 staff and 1,300 volunteers, speaking over 62 languages.
We have four separate divisions which cater to immigrant and refugee needs including:
Business, Education and Training Services;
Family and Children Services;
Community Development and Integration Services; and
Resettlement and Integration Services.
Business, Employment and Training Services:
Business, Employment and Training Services (BETS) is committed to providing an integrated cost effective 'One Stop' job search service and training centre, catering to the needs of new Canadians during their integration process.
BETS oversees 19 programs, including eight integrated training programs, which are specifically designed to assist immigrants and refugees successfully align their foreign trained skills to Canadian workforce standards.
To date, BETS integrated training programs has achieved a 95 per cent success rate of employment for its students after graduation in their selected field.
Family and Children Services:
Family and Children Services operates on a holistic, strength-based philosophy to facilitate the integration of families and children into the community. This division also enhances the provision of services to newcomers by community resources, strengthen families and the community and promote the healthy development of children.
Family and Children Services offers a variety of programs to help both parents and children adapt to Canadian life including:
Mother Goose Parent-Child Interaction,
Home Alone Safety,
Fathering Initiative,
Active Parenting Now and
Collective Kitchen, among others.
Community Development and Integration Services:
The commitment of the Community Development and Integration Services division is to create a welcoming community and to facilitate community linkage for new Canadians through volunteerism, outreach, education and integration strategies.
Community Development and Integration Services aligns Canadians with refugees and immigrants to guide them through the integration process, while offering legal workshops and a support program for survivors of torture.
Resettlement and Integration Services:
Resettlement and Integration Services works together as a diverse team of service providers to facilitate the integration of refugees and immigrants as active participants in Canadian society.
The division greets refugees as they first arrive with the Airport Reception Project and continues on to provide services including:
initial needs assessment
resettlement process planning
orientation/information sessions
supportive counseling
housing referrals and
interpretation/translation.
